Genoveva Vargas-Solar is a senior scientist of the French Council of Scientific Research (CNRS) and a member of the DataBase group of the Laboratory on Informatics on Image and Information Systems (LIRIS). She is a regular Mexican Academia of Computing (AMEXCOMP) member.

Genoveva Vargas-Solar is a gender equity officer of the Gender Equity Commission at the LIRIS lab and an Equity and Diversity contact in the Gender Equity Office at U. Claude Bernard Lyon 1 on behalf of the LIRIS lab. She promotes gender equity, diversity, and inclusion actions (e.g., W-Lead@STEM). She represents EDBT Endowment (a major European conference in databases) in the D&I database interconference initiative. Since 2020, she has co-organised the W-STEM forum of the conference AICCSA (2020, 2021, 2022). She co-organises the workshop Data science for equality, inclusion, and well-being challenges (DS4EIW) in conjunction with the conference IEEE Big Data. She is a member of the Tierra Común activist group and participates in the European project Gender STI as part of the CNRS partner group. 

Until October 2020, she was a member of the Heterogeneous and Adaptive Distributed Data Management Systems (HADAS) of the Informatics Laboratory of Grenoble (LIG). From 2008-2020, she was deputy director of the French-Mexican Laboratory of Informatics and Automatic Control (LAFMIA). She was president of the Mexican Society of Computer Science from 2007-2009.
